Royal stronghold, palace of pleasures, regimental garrison - Stirling Castle has played many roles over the centuries. Perched upon a mighty rock, it looks down on the sweeping plains beneath its ramparts where great medieval armies clashed to decide the fate of nations. The views include the battlefields of Stirling Bridge and Bannockburn. Visit the superb exhibition which brings the castle's history to life and see the largest medieval banqueting hall ever built in Scotland - James IV's Great Hall.
