Princes Street is Edinburgh’s principal street and home to all the main high street brands. Uniquely for a capital city, the street is one-sided – the Castle and the gardens provide a stunning backdrop to this shopping experience. George Street and Multrees Walk (just off St Andrew Square) comprise of shops offering high-end designer brands. Independent shops are concentrated in the Old Town, mainly on Cockburn Street, the Grassmarket and Victoria Street. Another location for unique shops is the Capital’s West End on William Street.
Across the city region there are a number of retail malls offering a mixture of high street brands and bespoke outlets. Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre occupies a stunning setting on Leith’s waterfront, and sits adjacent to the Cruise Liner Terminal at Leith.
Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market is the largest of its kind in Scotland and is held every Saturday at Castle Terrace and the City’s annual Christmas festival marks the return of a German Market to the city region. A French market also makes a monthly appearance on Edinburgh’s Castle Street.
