East Lothian Gardens And Heritage

For over 700 years, Lennoxlove House has been a major feature on the East Lothian landscape. This 14th century house was home of William Maitland, Mary Queen of Scot’s Secretary of State. Mary stayed here and its collection includes items belonging to Mary as well as her death mask. After lunch in County Town of Haddington, we travel to the coast and the mighty Tantallon Castle. Tantallon was the seat of the Douglas Earls of Angus one of the most powerful families in Scotland. This formidable stronghold has magnificent views to the Firth of Forth and the Bass Rock and strong links with Mary Queen of Scots. A short drive along the scenic coast brings us to the picturesque village of Dirleton. Dirleton Castle is a fine example of a fortified medieval residence. Within its walls are colourful gardens including the world’s largest herbaceous border.
